China Alert about Epidemic Meningitis in AfricaThe State Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine (SAQSQ) recently promulgated a proclamation requiring possible meningitis patients to go hospital as soon possible.In the past few months, epidemic meningitis hit some African countries such as Burkina Faso, Benin, The Central African Republic, Chad, and Ethiopia. Information from the World Health Organization indicates an obvious increase in the infected population recently. The SAQSQ requires that people who have been to these infected areas should go to hospital if they feel sick or suffer from symptoms of the disease. People from the infected areas should also inform custom officials if they feel sick or have a headache, fever, neck ache or other malaise as they receive quarantine checks at airports. According to the proclamation, people who plan to go the above areas in the near future are strongly suggested to learn about the epidemic situation of the destination countries and get vaccination treatment in advance. |
