First Thai Commodity Fair to Be Staged in China

A Thai commodity fair will be held from May 18 to 22 in Fuzhou, this capital of south China's Fujian Province, official sources said.

The fair, the first of its kind in China, is sponsored by the Thai government.

About 100 famous Thai enterprises will attend the fair, displaying a wide variety of products including fruit, rice, seasonings, food, fashion and textiles, jewelry, gifts, health care products, hides, and flowers, according to an official from the Thai consulate in Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province.

Kr. Banphot Hongthong, director of export promotion department of the Thai commerce ministry, said he hopes the fair will lay a solid foundation for trade cooperation between the two sides.

Thailand is a southeast Asian nation with a population of 64 million. The country has made a total of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in investment in China since the two nations established diplomatic relations in 1975, and some 200 Chinese enterprises have also invested in Thailand.
