Beijing to Become More Open to the World: Official

Beijing will become more open to the world, embrace more international cooperation, and accelerate its development, Beijing Mayor Liu Qi said Wednesday.

Liu made the remarks at the third annual meeting of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing, which opened here Wednesday.

Liu said that Beijing is trying to improve itself according to the norms of the World Trade Organization and is earnestly trying to attract even more overseas business.

The mayor briefed the business leaders on infrastructure construction, environment protection, the high-tech industry and the financial industry of the city. In the coming five years, more money will be pumped into the city's infrastructure construction and the Zhongguancun Science Village will be built into a first- class high-tech area, the mayor said.

The advisory council mainly includes leaders from 23 world- famous companies, such as the ABB Group, Ericsson Group, Bank of Montreal Group of Companies, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Electricite de France, and Nokia.
