Third ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting to Be Held in BeijingThe Foreign Ministers' meeting of the Third ASEM, or the Asia-Europe Meeting, will be held in Beijing May 24-25, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi announced Thursday at a regular news briefing.Sun said that foreign ministers from 25 ASEM member nations and members of the EU commission will attend the meeting. He pointed out that as a great event in the process of Asian- European cooperation at the beginning of the 21st century, the meeting is a major diplomatic gathering held by China this year. The Chinese government attaches great importance to this meeting, Chinese leaders will attend relative activities of the meeting, he announced. Sun also expressed his hope that the meeting will help both Asia and Europe exchange views on global and regional issues of common interests, put into practice the cooperative initiatives authorized by the Third ASEM, and make necessary preparations for the Fourth ASEM, which will be held in Denmark next year. At present, all the preparations for the meeting have been basically completed and China is willing to cooperate closely and enhance consultations with ASEM members, so as to make the meeting more successful, the spokesman said.
