Qinghai-Tibet Plateau International Highway Cycle Racing Set for September

The 2nd Qinghai-Tibet Plateau International Highway Bicycle Racing will take place from early to middle September. This widely concerned event will be attended by over 60 Chinese and foreign competitors. At present, preparatory and public bidding work is being stepped up.

Sponsored jointly by the China Bicycle Association (CBA), Sports Bureau of Qinghai Province, Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region, and Beijing Jiuyuan Industry Development Co. Ltd, the contest will involve a 2,000-km distance of run from Xining, Qinghai Province, via Sun-and-moon Mountain where Princess Wencheng of Tang Dynasty looked from afar to Chang'an (present-day Xi'an) on her way to Tibet, the clear, beautiful Qinghai Lake, the majestic Kunlun Mountain, the 1st Yangtze Bridge on the Tuotuo River, and the pass of Tanggula Mountain, and finally to Lhasa, known as a sunshine city in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The competition will consist of riding sectors, and eight speed-racing sectors of 800 km. The racing will adopt the rules of the Federation Internationale de Amateur Cyclisme (FIAC) and CBA to determine the individual and team scores in accordance with their racing time.
