German School Damaged by US Shelling

A US armored personnel carrier fired two rounds on a school in southern Germany Tuesday, damaging the school but causing no casualties, police said Wednesday.

A Bradley armored carrier on Tuesday misdirected and hit the roof of a school in Kirchenthumback in southern Germany, near the training ground of the US base at Grafenwoehr, local police said.

There were no injuries but the roof of the elementary school was damaged, police reported.

Police identified the shots as two 25-mm aluminum training rounds, adding that the shots were fired during a live-fire exercise.

Children were playing in the courtyard at the time of shelling, police said.

The incident is under investigation, according to police.
