President Jiang Zemin Leaves Hong Kong


Jiang Zemin Leaves HK
President Jiang Zemin left Hong Kong by special plane Wednesday afternoon after attending various activities in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Jiang flew into Hong Kong from Beijing Tuesday morning to attend the Fortune Global Forum 2001. During his stay, Jiang gave a keynote speech at the dinner for the opening of Forum, and met with Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, members of the board of directors of the AOL Time Warner Inc. as well as a group of world-known entrepreneurs and representatives from Hong Kong's business circle. He also attended a banquet held by Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa Wednesday noon.

Jiang's wife Wang Yeping and his entourage, including Vice- Premier Qian Qichen, left aboard the same plane.

Jiang were seen off at the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok by Tung Chee Hwa and his wife Betty Tung and other principal officials of the Hong Kong SAR.

Also among those seeing Jiang off were Jiang Enzhu, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Ji Peiding, commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong, and Xiong Ziren, commander of the People's Liberation Army Garrison in Hong Kong, as well as AOL Time Warner Chief Executive Officer Gerald Levin.
