NPC Chairman Meets Hungarian VisitorsThe exchanges and cooperation cover leaders, special committees and members of the two parliaments, said Li, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, adding that they will play a positive role in further promoting the development of relations between the two countries. Li made the remark here Tuesday afternoon in a meeting with Katalin Szili, vice-president of the National Assembly of Hungary, and her party. China and Hungary enjoy a traditional friendship and the Chinese people treasure the friendship with the Hungarian people, Li said, noting that China values its relations with Hungary. Li cited the good development momentum of bilateral ties in recent years, the increasing high-level exchanges of visits, and the remarkable progress in bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields. The strengthening of bilateral cooperation is the common aspiration of the two peoples and in the fundamental interests of both sides, Li said. And China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and respects the social system and development path chosen by the people of each country in accordance with their own conditions. China is opposed to hegemonism in international affairs and to imposing one's social system and values on others, Li pointed out. The Chairman also voiced his appreciation for the Hungarian government's one China position. Noting that the two parliaments play an important role in the political and social lives of their respective countries, Li welcomed more friends from the Hungarian parliament to visit China. After briefing the visitors on China's people's congress system and domestic economic situation, Li asked Szili to convey his regards to the Hungarian parliament leader. Szili conveyed the Hungarian parliament leader's regards to Li, saying that the strengthening of exchanges between the two parliaments is very important for the Hungarian National Assembly. She noted that there have been friendly contacts and exchanges between the two parliaments and said she believes that bilateral friendly relations will be advanced. Stressing that bilateral relations are based on the "one China" principle, Szili voiced the hope that her current visit to China will help strengthen the relations between the two parliaments and such exchanges will help further promote the development of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
