Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Corning Chief Executive

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo met Tuesday with John W. Loose, chief executive of Corning Inc. of the United States.

Wu welcomed Corning's plan to increase investment in China, noting that his visit will boost bilateral cooperation.

He said China is developing rapidly with a great market potential, and the interests of foreign investors are protected by law.

Loose said Corning has so far set up seven factories in China and all of them are doing well, adding that the company plans to add investment in Shanghai and other areas. The chief executive said some other U.S. companies also want to have good relations with China.

Shanghai Vice-Mayor Jiang Yiren was present at the meeting.

Corning, founded in 1851, is one of the leading manufacturers of optical fiber and cable in the world.
