Hong Kong Reports State-of-Art Internet FacilitiesCarrie Yau, secretary for information technology and broadcasting of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, recently said at a news briefing that Hong Kong has become a city with e-commerce and e-culture most highly developed and as a metropolis it has come to be known for its state-of-art Internet facilities built.In today's Hong Kong, 80 percent of residents have become mobile phone users. With all commercial buildings and over 95 percent of families directly linked to broadband Internet, 50 percent of families using PCs and more than 7 million intelligent cards circulating in markets, Hong Kong has become an important city for large international information sci-tech and telecom activities. When explaining the"2001 Digital 21 Information Sci-Tech Strategy: Digital Hong Kong Joins the World", Carrie Yau called on the HK citizens to support the 2001 Information Sci-Tech Strategy. She said that successful implementation of the strategy will further promote HK's economic growth, bring new job opportunities, help turn Hong Kong into a fountain of wealth and make Hong Kong a world top e-commerce and digital metropolis in the Internet world. According to Carrie Yau, the 2001 Information Sci-Tech Strategy includes: develop a favorable environment for e-commerce, set up an electronic government, train information sci-tech talents, and intensify the ability of the citizens to master digital technology.
