President Jiang Arrives in HK for Fortune Forum

President Jiang Zemin arrived in Hong Kong by special plane Tuesday morning to attend the Fortune Global Forum 2001 scheduled for May 8-10, accompanied by his wife Wang Yeping, Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and his wife Zhou Hanqiong, and some senior central government officials.  

International Auto Exhibition Opens in Anhui

Anhui International Auto Exhibition opened in Hefei May 6. On display there are about one hundred models of autos by scores of domestic and foreign carmakers. Family cars of moderate price were most welcomed, including Xiali 2000, Sail and other mini cars. Picture shows a Xiali 2000 attracted many visitors.

Rare Plant Brought to Life Again

Podocarpus nagi, China's largest rare plant group which had been damaged at the beginning of 1980s, thrived in Yifeng, Jiangxi again after two decades' ecological protection and became a major resource for tourism of the locality.Found solely in China, podocarpus nagi is a kind of tree dated back to the Cretaceous Period some 70m years ago. As a kind of plant classified in the second category under the protection of the state it is known as a "living fossil" and most valued in the studies of paleontology, geology and meteorology.

IC Card Telephone Enters Ngari Prefecture

Sengge Zangbo (Shiquanhe), capital of Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, welcomed its first street IC card telephone on May 7, and in a few days over hundred public telephone-sets would be installed with the opening of optical cable communications connecting Lanzhou, Lhasa and Ngari. New Silage for Cows Works in Guangxi

Renovation of the Southern Great Wall
