US Secretary of State Might Meet Yugoslav President
US Secretary of State Colin Powell is looking forward to a meeting with Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica during his visit to the
United States
this week, the State Department said Monday.
"We expect him to come to Washington in the middle of the week. We're looking to set up a meeting with the secretary of state, but it's not scheduled yet," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters.
It will be the first meeting between the leaders of two countries since the US-led NATO blasted Yugoslavia in a 78-day campaign in 1998.
Kostunica was expected to receive the "Statesman of the Year" award from the New York-based East-West Institute Tuesday.
