Chinese Red Cross Donates Money to Angolan Flood VictimsThe Red Cross Society of China donated in Luanda on Monday some 20,000 US dollars to its Angolan counterpart, with the aim of alleviating sufferings of the Angolan people inflicted by heavy rains and floods in the western and southern parts of the country.Chinese Ambassador to Angola Jiang Yuande, who attended the handover ceremony on behalf of the Chinese Red Cross, said that the symbolic donation shows the Chinese people's solidarity, kindness and support for the Angolans. Jiang expressed the hope that the aid will help the Angolan flood victims overcome difficulties caused by the torrential rains and floods, which killed in April some 100 people and displaced thousands of residents in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Namibe and Huila. Secretary General of the Angolan Red Cross Aleixo Goncalves manifested his appreciation of the Chinese donation, saying that he hopes the traditional Sino-Angolan friendship will be reinforced. Goncalves said his organization will work out a plan to take advantage of the Chinese donation to support the Angolan population in need.
