Former Vice Mayor in Hainan Sued for BriberyLin Lishen, former vice mayor of Wanning City in south China's Hainan Province, has been sued for taking bribes and possessing a large sum of money from unknown sources by a branch of Hainan People's Procuratorate.The Intermediate People's Court of Hainan Province will hear the case soon. On June 8, 2000, Lin's wife was murdered at home. The public security organs discovered 60 bank deposit receipts and 172,250 yuan in cash in Lin's home during their investigation. The deposit receipts are valued at 1.7 million yuan, 4,942 U.S.dollars and 30,944 Hong Kong dollars respectively. Investigations indicated that Lin's legal income in the past years stood at 716,024 and another 190,000 was money kept for others. Lin was sued for accepting 114,000 yuan in bribes together with his wife and Lin could not identify the legal source for 1.5 million yuan, 4,942 dollars and 30,944 Hong Kong dollars in deposit receipts. |
