HK Launches Healthy Diet Campaign to Mark World Red Cross Day

The Hong Kong Red Cross Sunday stages a large-scale healthy diet-promoting campaign at 33 venues to mark the World Red Cross Day which falls on May 8.

At the opening ceremony of World Red Cross Day 2001 and the Community Health Campaign "Balance Diet and Healthy Eating", Hong Kong's Secretary for Health and Welfare E K Yeoh called the campaign a timely event for "an increasingly affluent society like Hong Kong."

"Excessive eating and unbalanced diet of high-fat, high-salt and high-sugar content are common in the local community, but many of us are unaware of the adverse effects such dietary habits may have on our health," said Yeoh.

The official urged the public, for the sake of their health, to develop healthy dietary habits, exercise regularly, refrain from smoking and excessive alcohol drinking.
