China Wins 2001 Asia Cup Badminton Tournament

China won the 2001 Asia Cup badminton tournament with a one-sided 3-0 win over South Korea in the final at the Singapore Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

Chen Hong made a 2-0 clean sweep against South Korean Lee Hyan I in the opening singles, put China 1-0 ahead in the final.

Chinese pair Zhang Jun and Zhang Wei routed Yoo Yong Sung and Chung Jae Sung in 15-7, 15-10 in the doubles, making the second singles match redundant.

In the second singles, Chinese young shuttler Chen Yu gained a 15-11 win over South Korean player Shon Seung Mo in the first set and bounced back from 4-11 to claw his way to victory by 15-13 and wrapped up the second singles 2-0.

Indonesia, the top seeds and winner of the first two Asia Cups, beat Thailand 2-1 in the play-off for third place.
