China Beats Indonesia in Semifinals of Asia Cup Badminton

China took a hard-earned 2-1 triumph over the world No 1 Indonesia in a semifinal match of the 2001 Asia Cup Badminton Championships in Singapore Saturday.

China will takes on South Korea in the final of the current Asia Cup in Sunday's afternoon.

In the first singles, Chen Hong put China 1-0 ahead when he contested world No 3 Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia 2-1. Chen Hong allied from a first game down of 9-15 and won the second and third 17-16 and 15-12, respectively.

In the doubles, Indonesia tied the scores at 1-1 when Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto beat their Chinese counterparts Zhang Jun and Zhang Wei 4-15, 15-6 and 17-15.

In the second singles, China's 19-years-old player Chen Yu encountered world No 11 single Hendrawan of Indonesia 15-12, 9-15 and 15-12.
