Uganda to Probe Into Issues in UN Panel Report
The Ugandan government has decided to establish a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate issues raised in the United Nations panel's report on its plunder of natural resources in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the New Vision daily reported on Saturday.
Minister for the Presidency Ruhakana Rugunda was quoted as saying that Uganda has nothing to hide and has decided to establish a judicial commission of inquiry over the U.N. panel's report, which alleged that Uganda looted mineral resources in the DRC.
"The judicial commission will be set up soon. The issue is already decided," said Rugunda, adding that the cabinet will meet shortly to debate President Yoweri Museveni's proposal for total pullout of troops from the DRC.
Charles Egou, vice-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Presidential and Foreign Affairs, said that the committee had agreed with Museveni to send a team to investigate the alleged looting in the DRC.
