Chinese Wang Liqin Beats Persson in World Table Tennis

World number one Wang Liqin shut Swedish veteran Jorgen Persson out of the quarter-finals in the World Table Tennis Championships on Friday.

Wang, who plays quite a simple game but with powerful two wings loops and drives, saw his 20-16 lead disappear as the Swedish 1991 world champion scored four points in a row to take the first set.

Jolted awake, Wang won the following three sets 21-17, 21-16, 21-16.

Wang will take on South Korean Kim Taek Soo in the quarter- finals.
