Hong Kong Networking with Silicon Valley, India

The Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau (ITBB) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) is carrying on to drive Hong Kong's development as an IT hub in the region by networking with major players in places which are advanced in the IT field.

Carrie Yau, secretary for information technology and broadcasting of the Hong Kong SAR, Friday met with John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase, Inc.

Based in Silicon Valley, Sybase is one of the largest software companies in the world. It has established its Asia Pacific headquarters operation in Hong Kong since 1994.

Yau introduced to Chen key representatives of the Hong Kong IT industry. They had useful exchanges on the future of Hong Kong's IT development and how Silicon Valley and Hong Kong could enhance co-operation in the IT field.

Separately, Yau met with Narayana Murthy, chairman and CEO of Infosys Technologies Ltd., Bangalore, India, Thursday to strengthen networking with India.

Yau and Murthy discussed how Hong Kong and India could cooperate to create synergy in IT development in the two places. One possible initiative is for Infosys to provide internship training for Hong Kong IT students.
