Non-Aligned Movement Discusses Middle East Peace in S. AfricaThe Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Committee on Palestine Thursday opened a meeting in Pretoria to discuss ways of bring the derailed Middle East peace back to the road of dialogue.Ministers and senior officials of the 10 member countries of the committee, which includes South Africa, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cuba, India, Indonesia, Palestine, Senegal, Zambia and Zimbabwe, attend the meeting. "We have a big responsibility to discuss and come up with some ideas about how we could endeavor to get the process to move a bit forward," said Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the foreign minister of South Africa which serves chair country of the committee. Earlier on Thursday, Arafat, who arrived in Pretoria Wednesday for the conference, held talks with former South African president Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg and reiterated Palestine's commitment to bringing about "real peace" despite the current violence in the Middle East. About 500 people have in the past seven months been killed in violent clashes between Palestinians and Israelis in the Gaza Strip and on the West Bank. |
