Further Study of "Three Represents" Theory Urged

Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao called for an upsurge of studying, implementing, publicizing and acting on the "three represents" theory put forth by President Jiang Zemin within the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Hu, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour to east China's Zhejiang Province from April 30 to May 3.

Recalling the CPC history, Hu said every victory China has achieved was obtained under the leadership of the CPC.

"In the new century, we should push ahead with the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics. The key to attaining the goal is to study well, implement and act on the "three represents" theory.

The "Three represents" theory was proposed by Jiang Zemin, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, in his investigation tour of south China's Guangdong Province in February 2000.

Jiang said the Party will remain successful and enjoy the support of the Chinese people and lead them to constantly advance so long as it always earnestly represents the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

Referring to Party building, Hu said Party committees at all levels should take the change-tenure election in 2001 and 2002 as a good chance to train and select more younger and female Party officials.

Efforts will be made to improve the Party's style of ideology, work and leadership, combat red tape, bureaucracy and graft of all kinds, and endear the relationship between the Party and the masses.
