Landslide Rescue Expected to End Tomorrow

The rescue work of the landslide that occurred Tuesday in Wulong County of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality is expected to be finished Friday morning.

To date, 65 bodies, 32 male and 33 female, have been dug out from the debris, 44 of whom have been identified and 31 have been cremated with approval of their relatives.

The landslide destroyed a nine-story residential building and it is estimated that about 76 people were buried in the rubble.

Hundreds of armed police, the People's Liberation Army soldiers and local residents rushed to the scene to start rescue efforts. They have dug up 10,000 cubic meters of the estimated 12,000 cubic meters of rock and earth from the landslide.
