Pakistani Leader Begins Visiting Vietnam

Chief Executive of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf arrived in Hanoi Thursday for a three-day official visit to Vietnam.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by a Pakistani leader since the two countries established diplomatic relation in 1972.

Musharraf's visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, is aimed at promoting and developing the friendship and cooperative relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade, investment and science technology.

Musharraf, who is also chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Army Staff, is scheduled to hold talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and meet with Vietnamese State President Tran Duc Luong.

General Musharraf and Prime Minister Khai are expected to sign a trade agreement later in the day to increase bilateral trade activities.

The Pakistani leader, who had just finished a three-day official visit to Myanmar before arriving here, is scheduled to conclude his official visit to Vietnam on Saturday.
