Light Plane Crash Kills Five in Botswana
A light aircraft crashed on Okavango Delta in Botswana on Tuesday afternoon, killing all five people on board, the South African Press Association reported on Wednesday.
The dead included three New Zealanders, an Australian and the pilot, believed to be a South African. The plane was on a sightseeing trip when it crashed, said the report.
The report quoted New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as saying that it was advised of the accident early on Wednesday, but details about the crash are sketchy to the ministry.
Botswana aviation authorities confirmed the crash, which destroyed the Cessna 206 single-engined aircraft near the northern tourist center of Maun on the edge of Okavango Delta, according to the report.
The Okavango Delta, a vast wetland teeming with wildlife, is one of Africa's most popular destinations for foreign tourists.
