Defending Champs Fall as 3 Chinese Pairs into Semis

Zhan Jian/Bai Yang upset defending champions Ma Lin/Zhang Yingying as three Chinese pairs made the mixed doubles semi-finals at the World Table Tennis Championships in Osaka, Japan, on Wednesday.

Zhan/Bai won the all-Chinese quarter-final 21-14, 21-15, 21-18.

In another all-Chinese match, Qin Zhijian/Yang Ying outlasted Yan Sen/Li Ju 21-23, 20-22, 21-14, 21-15, 21-15.

Chinese duo Liu Guoliang/Sun Jin also reached the semi-finals as they beat Richard Vyborny/Renata Strbikova from Czech Republic, 21-14, 21-13, 14-21, 21-17.

Oh Sang Eun/Kim Moo Kyo of South Korea were the only non- Chinese semifinalists. They scored a 21-16, 21-19, 21-17 win over Ko Lai Chak/Wong Ching from Hong Kong, China.
