400,000 Guangzhou Residents Observe Holiday Touring New Apartments

At least 400,000 residents in Guangzhou City in south China's Guangdong Province spent the first day of the seven-day Labor Day holiday by touring apartment buildings in over 100 newly built residential quarters in the city.

Touring and purchasing new apartments has become a new fashion of observing holidays now in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong, where per capita living space reached 13 square meters, ranking top among all big Chinese cities.

Arranged by the Yangcheng Evening News Group, nearly all of the "visitors" were transported to the newly built residential quarters without any charge.

Various real estate companies provide shuttle buses for their potential buyers.

Touring new apartment buildings was only part of the activities of the three-day Guangzhou first real estate fair opened Tuesday.

So far, 80 percent of Guangzhou residents have bought their own apartments and purchasing a second apartment is the choice of quite a number of Guangzhou residents as a form of investment.

The city has published specially-designed apartment purchasing maps and the real estate companies even arrange "sightseeing tours " along the Zhujiang River where over a dozen new residential quarters have been built.

The Guangzhou Civil Affairs Bureau arranged for tour groups to visit new-style apartments for the elderly.

Some real estate agents from nearby cities also came to Guangzhou for learning experiences.

In the first three months this year, 989,300 square meters of apartments were sold in Guangzhou, doubling that of the same period last year.
