Macao Sees Tourist Craze on Labor Day

Gongbei Customs, the only land gate linking Macao special administrative region with China's inland areas, handled more than 150,000 passengers Tuesday, the International Labor Day, latest statistics show.

Many Macao residents traveled to the inland China to visit their relatives or sightseeing. On the other hand, a total of 120 tourist groups came to Macao on the first day of the week-long holiday, with most of them being reportedly from Guangdong and Fujian provinces in southern China and some eastern Chinese provinces and municipalities.

Customs authorities said that it was rarely seen to handle more than 100 tourist groups a day. Gongbei Customs opened ten special passages to handle the passengers. Police were there helping them fill in the entry and exit cards and reminding them of taking care of their luggage.

Long holidays have brought travel craze in inland China. With the improvement of living conditions, an increasing number of people travel to Hong Kong, Macao or foreign countries.
