China's CPPCC Chairman Li Ruihuan Meets Turkish PMLi Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remark during a brief meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. Li is on a four-day official goodwill visit to Turkey. Li said that China appreciates Turkish government's consistent respect of China's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and is ready to "strengthen cooperation with the Turkish government to fight against international terrorism, national separatism and religious extremism appearing in any form." The chairman stressed that if people can view things from the other's perspectives, it will be easy for them to increase understanding, reduce prejudice and reach consensus. It is the same with different countries although they may differ in historical background, social system and judgement of value, Li said. Ecevit said that he agreed with Li's statement. He stressed that the Turkish government pays great attention to developing relations with China, and is satisfied with the development of relations over the past years. The Turkish government will continue to respect China's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, just like it values its own sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and supports China's efforts of reunification, the prime minister said. Also on Tuesday, Turkish President Ahmed Necdet Sezer and Speaker of Grand National Assembly Omer Izgi met with the chairman on separate occasions.
