US President Says Ready to Meet Russian President
US President George W. Bush said on Tuesday he told
Russia
n President Vladimir Putin he would "love to meet with him" before an upcoming summit of the Group of Eight in July.
Bush told reporters that he telephoned the Russian president earlier Tuesday to discuss his plans for building a missile defense system.
"He asked me whether or not there's a chance we can meet before our upcoming summits and I told him I'd love to meet with him beforehand to look him in the eye and let him know how sincere I am about achieving a new way of keeping the peace," Bush said.
