China Leads PC Sales in Asia-PacificSales of personal computers in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, rose 14.4 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier to 4.7 million units, led by sales in China, according to latest data released by U.S.-based market-research firm Gartner.Asia-Pacific personal-computer sales are traditionally slower in the first quarter, but the decline from the fourth quarter of 2000 was a slight 0.1 percent, as strong sales growth in China offset declines elsewhere in the region, Gartner said. It said 1.9 million personal computers were sold in China in the first quarter, up 38 percent from a year earlier.
