Kenya May Have Longer Rainy Season

This year's rainy season may extend into June in some parts of Kenya, the country's Meteorological Department was quoted as saying by Monday's Daily Nation newspaper.

The department predicted that most of the country's regions will experience sporadic heavy rainfall in the first two weeks of May before a gradual decline of rainfall in the following two weeks.

Weathermen also forecast that while the seasonal rainfall will end in May in most parts of the country, it is expected to continue in some areas of the Rift Valley, Western, Coast Nyanza Provinces even in June.

Kenya experienced the worst droughts in recent years, which hampered the economic development and caused severe food shortages in the country. But this season's bigger rains, said the experts, are good for the recovery of the country's agriculture sector.
