Shanghai Youth Willing to Spend on ClothingYouth in Shanghai, traditionally known for dressing stylishly, have spent much more on clothing in the past 15 years along with the rising living standards, according to a recent survey.Among some 10,000 surveyed, 84.2 percent are under 40 years old and half earn less than 1,500 yuan in monthly income. The survey shows that each person has about 58 pieces of clothing like coats and suits on average, excluding shirts and T- shirts. Compared with a similar survey conducted in 1985 on some 1,000 households in Shanghai, the survey revealed that the fastest growth lies in suits, with young people in Shanghai now having an average of 5.29 suits each, four times that of 1985. The quality of clothing has improved a lot as well, with the per capita possession of cashmere clothes amounting to 2.27 pieces. The survey shows that over one third of the young people spend over 2,000 RMB on clothing. |
