Tibetan Abominable Snowman Remains Unsolved RiddleThe abominable snowman in Tibet, a legendary large, hairy, man-like creature, has been frequently talked about in recent days and some local people even said they have seen it with their own eyes.The abominable snowman, also known as "Yeti" by local residents, is said to be similar to the reported Bigfoot in the United States and Shennongjia of central China's Hubei Province. Aco, a resident of Lhasa, capital of Tibet, told Xinhua her girlfriend has seen the abominable snowman in a virgin forest in her hometown of Medog County. "One day, all the women and several children stayed at home when the men were out. Suddenly, a hairy giant man appeared in front of the pigsty and stared at them," Aco's friend recalled. According to historical materials, British and French expeditions to the Himalayas in the 18th century reportedly caught sight of the abominable snowman on different occasions. A British mountaineer even shot a picture of the abominable snowman's footprint, which is much larger than that of an ordinary human being. In an expedition in May-July 1959, scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing University obtained evidence that shows the existence of the abominable snowman in Tibet. A Polish mountaineer said he saw a big face with red hair through a crack in his tent one night on his way to the Qomolangma Peak in 1975. He yelled loudly and the creature ran away quickly. A Japanese female mountaineering team also saw strange footprints at the Himalayas in the 1980s. An officer from the Chengdu Military Area Command said he saw a hairy abominable snowman twice when he stayed in the Ngari Prefecture of Tibet in 1960. One abominable snowman tried to snatch a gun from a soldier and was killed by the soldier. The soldiers claimed they buried the 300-kg yeti without recording any evidence of it. An Italian mountaineer claimed to have solved the riddle of the abominable snowman recently. He said he had seen abominable snowmen on many occasion and considers them to be a kind of brown bear in the Himalayas. However, experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Nature Museum said that the abominable snowman does exist. They believe it is the descendant of giant ape, or a creature between giant ape and man. Yan Zhenzhong, vice-president of the Himalayas Riddle Investigation Society, said it is difficult to obtain direct evidence of abominable snowmen in the Himalayas, a frigid area with towering mountain peaks and dense forest. |
