Shanghai Young People Join Medulla Bank

More than 1,200 students and young medical staff of the Shanghai No. 2 Medical University have voluntarily joined the Zhonghua £¨Shanghai£© Medulla Bank.

Their move is designed to greet the first Youth Day (May 4) in the new century. The Communist Youth League Committee of the university proposed that every healthy young people in Shanghai should join the volunteers who will donate his/her medulla so as to offer compassion to leukaemia patients.

Some 20,000 volunteers, including 13,800 Shanghai residents, have joined the Zhonghua Medulla Bank since its founding in 1992. The figure is much lower than that of many other countries and regions.

So, great efforts have been made to spread the knowledge of medulla donation. The Communist Youth League Committee also called on university students and young medical staff to donate their medulla.

Within several days, 1,238 people signed up for the event, 120 of them students of a hygiene school under the age of 18.
