S. Africa, India to Cooperate in Combating AIDSSouth African Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang on Monday signed a declaration of intent with a Indian delegation for cooperation on accessing cheap drugs for the Southern African Development Community (SADC)."We will be discussing further the possibility of transferring technology and building the capacity of our country and region with regard to pharmaceutical services," she said. South Africa and other SADC member states want to acquire generic anti-AIDS drugs from India which is a producing generic forms of many drugs. The South African Health Department would also work with India on community-based HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis programs, nutrition programs, research and tackling of waterborne diseases, according to Tshabalala-Msimang. The two countries' health ministries would also exchange information on traditional and western medicine, she said.
