Utah Locals Not Interested in Salt Lake Olympics

With the US Olympic Committee bragging its goal of 20 medals in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, local residents in Salt Lake City were complaining and not committed to take part in any of the scandal-related Winter Olympics.

A statewide poll found that 76 percent of local residents had no plans to watch any part of the Games, and half of those 22 percent who want to attend, hope to work as volunteers for the Games, awarded to Salt Lake City after the U.S. bidding committee bought out some IOC members with at least one million US dollars in bribery.

The poll was conducted by Dan Jones & Associates for a local newspaper and television station.

Some 50 percent of local people complained that organisers had not made adequate provision for allowing locals to buy tickets, while figure skating was the only sport to be completely sold out.
