World Cup Tickets Sell Well in First Sales Phase

Tickets for the 2002 World Cup are in enormous demand in the initial phase of ticket applications which ends today when the FIFA World Cup Ticket Application website will close and no more online applications will be accepted, according to a press release by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Because of the overwhelming demand, the FIFA Ticketing Sub- Committee has decided that the World Cup Ticket Application site will remain closed until after the random selection process is complete. That will take place on May 15.

FIFA cautioned that many of the ticket series had been over- subscribed, meaning that many applicants would not be able to obtain tickets for the game to be jointly held by Korea and Japan.

The FIFA World Cup Ticket Application website will re-open for applications in the intermediate sales phase on May 23.
