Hong Kong Recruits Americans to Beat Liaoning Basketball Club

In a bid to qualify for the 12th Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup's finals, Hong Kong recruited two American tall guys, it was revealed Sunday in Hong Kong.

China's Liaoning club will match China Hong Kong's Winling club on May 5 here. The winners will go to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the finals of the 12th ABC Champions Cup, which is slated for June 2-9, 2001.

"Only one week", replied Henrie Darren when asked how long he had been with the team (Winling).

The 32-years-old Henrie Darren is one of the best shooters in the world. The two meter tall forward and guard set an NBA and CBA record by sinking 9 three-pointers in 14 attempts in 1993 CBA Championship Series game against Omaha and was last cut of the Atlanta Hawks in tow straight years.

Jaxon Khari, 2.11 meter in height, was labeled as "the winds of a tiger" by Norman Chan Shui-tim, Chairman of Hong Kong Basketball Association. He was invited, by NBA, to the Golden State Warriors Veterans Camp and released during the camp in 1996.

Hong Kong clubs appeared in the ABC Champions Cup six times, with Regal club won the cup in 1998, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Liaoning finished the fifth of China's basketball league of the 2000-2001 season and were the ABC Champions Cup's winners in 1990.
