Three Men in Sichuan Sentenced to Death for Robbing Money-Carrying Vehicle

The Intermediate People's Court of Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, has sentenced to death three men for robbing a money-carrying vehicle.

The court also deprived the criminals of their political rights for life.

At dawn of January 6, 2001, the criminals, namely, Du Jiang, Luo Jun and Feng Mingxing, drove a van to the Nanlu Branch of Jiangyou City Rangshui Credit Cooperative and waited for the money-carrying vehicle to arrive.

At the sight of the vehicle, the three put on masks. Du stayed in the van, the two others rushed to the vehicle and fired shots at the driver and the security guard.

The person escorting money avoided the shot thanks to a cashbox, while the driver was wounded. But they did their utmost to fight back, shouting for help. Realizing that they could not succeed, the three drove away from the scene.

Shortly after the case occurred, police officers carried out a province-wide manhunt and captured the three in Guanhan and Jiangyou on January 9 and 10.

Police interrogations also reveal that on the evening of January 5, Luo and Du ran to Luxi town of Santai County, in Mianyang, Sichuan Province. Under the pretext of having their van repaired, they deceived a self-employed driver into going with them to Jiangyou, where they strangled him and threw his body onto grass.

The Mianyang City Peopleˇ®s Intermediate Court held that the three had committed the crime of deliberate homicides and robbery and that they shall be severely punished.
