More SOE and Administrative Officials to Be Audited in Shanghai

More officials in administrative sectors and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are to be audited in terms of their economic responsibility in this east China metropolis.

Chen Liangyu, deputy mayor of the city, made this announcement Saturday at a conference.

Shanghai is scheduled to audit the leaders of 60 key local SOEs, as well as a few district- and county-level administrative officials within three years, sources said.

According to statistics, the city has audited a considerable number of officials from more than 300 local SOEs and administrative sectors during the past four years.

The auditing movement has not only disclosed misconduct on the part of officials, but also provided valuable help for improving the management of the enterprises.

Anyone cheating during auditing activities will be seriously punished, Chen stressed, saying that the economic responsibility auditing should be developed into an efficient system to manage and supervise Shanghai officials over the next couple of years.
