China to Handle 280 Million Passengers in Week-long HolidaySome 280 million passengers are scheduled to go around China during the week-long holiday starting from May 1st, predicted an official with the Ministry of Communications. Thanks to the policy of more days off, Chinese started enjoying a whole week holiday on and following the International Labors' Day from last May. Millions of passengers were reported traveling around the country last year. Transportation departments and travel agencies have eyed the holiday as their "Golden Week" but they had a hard time to handle the peak tour pressure in 2000. Domestic passengers this year will be more cautious about their outing plans, for some unhappy experience was reported during the same period last year, the official said, noting that they also expect higher quality service of traveling. Most of them will take buses on expressways and trunk lines, and on those linking cities to scenic spots and between scenic spots in particular. Trains or airplanes are not available between scenic spots, so buses will take up most of the transportation pressure, said the official. Railways, airlines and highways are now ready to receive the millions more tourists. They have promised to ensure a secure and high-quality service, added the official.
