Four Falungong Activists Stripped of Status to Stay on in Singapore

Four Falungong activists, who are Chinese passports holders, convicted of obstruction to police duty during a an illegal assembly, have been stripped of their status to stay and told to leave Singapore, according to Singapore Immigration and Registration(SIR).

The four were among the seven Falungong activists who were sentenced to an imprisonment term of four weeks on March 29 after being convicted of obstructing police from carrying out their duty and released from Singapore prison Wednesday on completion of their jail term.

SIR affirmed that Li Ying will have her permanent resident status revoked and has been told to leave Singapore because of the obstruction charge and her active involvement in various illegal gatherings for which she was previously warned.

SIR also said that the students passes of Xiong Changlei, Xiong Shouyong and Wu Guo Rui who were sentenced to jail for offense of obstructing policemen and illegal assembly will be canceled or not be renewed.

A total of 15 Falungong activists who were involved in the Falungong gathering near a carpark at Singapore's MacRitchie Reservoir without a permit on December 31 last year were arrested and charged in court as they had defied police orders to disperse and blocked police officers from carrying out their duties.

The group, nine males and six females, included 13 Chinese passport holders and two Singapore citizens.

Singapore Magistrate Court sentenced each of the seven who were convicted of obstructing policemen from carrying out their duties to an imprisonment term of four weeks and each of the other eight convicted of participating an assembly without a permit to a fine of 1000 Singapore dollars (about 570 U.S. dollars).
