DPRK Paper Refutes "DPRK Threat" Theory Concocted by US

The official newspaper Rodong Shinmun Friday refuted the "DPRK threat" theory preached by the United States, denouncing it as an excuse for the US military presence in South Korea.

The so-called "DPRK threat" theory has factitiously caused tension in the Korean Peninsula, and is aimed at legalizing US military presence in South Korea and its hostile policy toward the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, said the organ of the Workers' Party of Korea in an editorial.

The powerful U.S. military presence in South Korea constitutes a constant threat to the security of the DPRK, the editorial said.

It said the DPRK armed forces will protect its nation and people from U.S. aggression and maintain peace in the Korean Peninsula.

Since the signing of the South-North Joint Declaration last year, peace and peaceful reunification have become an irresistible tide in the Korean peninsula, it said. If reunification is achieved in the Korean peninsula, the U.S. military would lose its reason to stay in South Korea. That's why the United States is causing tension in the peninsula.

But no matter how the United States makes excuses, its military presence in South Korea is always illegal, the paper said.
