Home-made CPU Chips Available

As jointly released by Shanghai Hua Hong NEC Electronics Co., Ltd. and China Integrated Circuit Design Center (CIDC) Wednesday China has the competence in designing and manufacturing the CPU wafer, putting an end to the history in which China had to rely on foreign-made CPU wafers.

As reported, the first batch of CPU wafers developed by CIDC and manufactured by Shanghai Hua Hong NEC Electronics Co., Ltd on January 2001, with the design rule of 0.35¦Ìm and the wafer size of 8 inch, were able to match all international standards.

Shanghai Hua Hong NEC Electronics Co., Ltd., an undertaker of the "909" State Project, has smoothly set up the production line for manufacturing 8inch CPU wafer and putting it into production. And it has raised the production capacity to 20,000 wafers per month from formerly 5,000 in a short time. CIDC, another undertaker of the "909" State Project, is currently engaged in designing 0.25¦Ìm and 0.18¦Ìm integrated circuit.

The achievement indicates that the "909" State Project is now utterly capable to provide the national electronic industry China-made integrated circuit with our own intellectual property rights, said an official of the Ministry of Information Industry. He also believed that it would certainly play a bigger role in China's electric information industry.
