China to Publish Photo Collection on Japanese Bombing

A photo collection featuring the brutal bombing by invading Japanese troops of the southwest China's Chongqing City some 60 years ago will soon be published by the Chongqing Press.

The photo collection, believed to be the first of its kind in China, includes nearly 300 photos and half of which were donated by photographer Cheng Mo, a witness to the bombing.

"Most of the photos are being made public for the first time. People will surely be greatly shocked by the bloody scenes," a staff member from the publishing company said.

From February 1938 to August 1943, Japanese fascist troops bombed Chongqing, then the secondary capital for China, 218 times, dumping 21,593 bombs and killing 11,889 residents and injuring 14, 100 people.

According to experts, the Chongqing bombing is one of the most tragic wartime outrages in the history of not only the World War II but also the entire human civilization.
