First Foreign-Enterprise Postdoctoral Workstation Opens

The Ministry of Personnel held a ceremony on April 24 in Microsoft Research China (MRC) for launching China's first foreign-enterprise postdoctoral workstation. Xu Songtao, director of the Postdoctoral Management Committee under the Ministry of Personnel, granted MRC's head Zhang Yaqin the brass plate"Enterprise Postdoctoral Research Workstation" at the ceremony.

This is another important cooperation with the Chinese government and scientific and educational institutions since the signing of a cooperative agreement in October 1999 with the information science department under the State's Natural Science Foundation Committee. It is also an important step taken in order to achieve MRC's goal of training highly competent talents in the scientific research field and supporting China's basic researches.

Founded in November 1998, MRC is currently engaged mainly in four aspects of basic research work: new generation of user interface, of multimedia, of information processing technology, and of wireless & network technology.

Since its establishment, nearly 300 students and over 50 visiting scholars have studied and engaged in research work in MRC as well as published over 200 theses in top-rate world academic magazines and at conferences, granted with many international awards.

Under the agreement, MRC will provide the postdoctors with favorable research environment, ample fees, plentiful academic resources and necessary logistic provisions, so that they can throw themselves heart and soul into various basic research projects.
