Chinese Tibetan Delegation Ends Visit to ArgentinaThe head of the Chinese Tibetan International Cultural Exchange Delegation, Xiao Huaiyuan, expressed his satisfaction over the visit to Argentina before leaving for Mexico City Wednesday.During the four-day visit in Argentina, the Tibetan delegation conducted a series of cultural exchanging activities featuring Tibetan pictures, paintings, songs and dances. The delegation presented advancements in the Tibetan society over the past 50 years and answered questions about Tibet at two press conferences. At the meetings, Xiao said that the Tibetan Autonomous Region has achieved great advances in the areas of politics, economy, society and culture over the past 50 years. The official said that the Tibetan people are now living a peaceful and stable life with respect for human rights and democracy, which separatists forces headed by the Dalai Lama and his Western supporters cannot destroy. Xiao also stressed the strong wish of the Chinese government and people to maintain stability and prosperity in the Tibetan region. On TV programs on Channel 7 and the Canal Azul Television Channel, Tibetan economists and specialists from the delegation also gave an introduction on Tibetan history. They said that Tibet has been part of China for 1,000 years and that the Tibetan ethnic group is one of the 56 in the multi-ethnic country. During his stay in Argentina, Xiao also had meetings with the secretary of culture of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Norberto Padia, and Vice Secretary of Culture of the Presidency Hugo Storero. The Chinese Tibetan delegation arrived here last Saturday after a visit to Chile. Argentina is the second leg in its four-stop Latin America tour in which Mexico and Brazil will be the next two destinations. |
