Li Peng, chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, will not be able to visit Japan in the near future, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Thursday.
"The NPC has notified Japan's Diet that Li Peng will be unable to visit Japan in the near future," Zhang told a regular press conference.
Japan's granting of visa to Lee Teng-hui has harmed the political foundation of the Sino-Japanese relationship, she said, adding that the normal relationship between the two countries is definitely affected.
