Chinese Defense Minister Meets Austrian Guest

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian said Thursday that China is willing to work with Austria to further the friendly cooperation between the two countries and their armed forces.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remarks at a meeting with Werner Fasslabend, the third president of the National Council and former defense minister of Austria.

Chi said that China and Austria enjoy traditional friendship. Developing the friendly cooperation not only confirms to the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also benefits peace and stability in the world.

This friendly cooperation between the two countries has been deepening in recent years and the exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries have also made satisfactory results, he said, adding that China is willing to further promote the mutual understanding and friendship with Austria.

Chi also briefed Fasslabend on China's defense policy and military building.

Fasslabend said that he is willing to make further efforts to promote the friendly cooperation between the two armed forces.
